Eiche's 2011 Turnfest

Eiche Turners is dedicated to the spirit of competition, and maintains a healthy competition among its membership, and with other Turnvereins, in many fields of endeavor.

                    Golf
Eiche golf is enjoyed through monthly (during good weather) golf outings by Eiche's Baers; an annual Eiche Golf tournament (the Al Hack Open in September); and participation by individual members in the annual Illinois District Golf Tournament and the National Golf Tournament (this year as part of the National Turnfest, July 7 - 9, in Aurora, IL ).

In 2010 the 1st Annual Hack Open was shut down, with about 1/3 of our golfers out on the course, by inclement weather and lightning, so we had no winner.  Only one foursome completed 9 holes before being chased off the course by the Silver Lake CC Rangers.

2011 Al Hack Open

The 2011 Al Hack Open was again be held at Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park, IL 10 September.   The Koenig Foursome (Jeff, Joe, Bob & Steve Koenig) won the Scramble (Best Ball) format with a four under par score.

Six Eiche's also competed at the National Golf Tournament at this summers Turnfest at Aurora, IL.  Dale Carlson won the First Flight.

                Dart League
The Eiche Turner Dart League competes Friday nights in the Halle through the fall and early winter
.  Everyone is looking forward to a spirited Dart League Competition starting in September this fall.  Sign-up for the 2011 Season was held the evening of Friday, 23 September with  competition beginning October 7.

        Cultural Competitions
Eiche Turners competes with other Turnvereins around the Nation on the cultural stage as well as the gym and field.  Every year, there are cultural competitions within the Illinois District, usually held at the Illinois Turner Camp in Algonquin, and every four years we compete against all the Turner Societies at the National Turnfest.

Turner cultural competitions are segregated by age, so our youngsters are encouraged to compete within their age group, as well as the adults.

Categories for competition at this years Turnfest included:  Art, which in turn includes such wide ranging disciplines as painting and drawing , caligraphy, metal work, pottery, writing, music composition, and photography; Crafts such as flower arranging, basket weaving, carving, etc.; Needlecrafts; Collecting, such as stamps, coins, butterflies, et al; Performance, both solo and group; and the Miss American Turner competition.  In all, there are over 100 categories and sub-categories available to choose from.

Whatever your passion, there is a place to share it and to compete with your peers in Turners.

A number of Eiche Turners enjoyed entering their speciality in our Cultural Competition in July 2011, coming away with a number of awards.  More can be learned at a Society Meeting (see Calendar), or by calling 708-429-2206 and asking that our Cultural Comittee contact you.

                    Bocci
Bocce ball is an activity enjoyed by Turners during various periods of the year.  During late winter and through the spring, Eiche's participate in our indoor Bocci League, playing Friday nights on the carpeting in the Halle.  The 2011 Spring Bocci League was concluded in May, and a new season is anticipated starting next January.

Each fall, a Bocce Ball (or Lawn Bowling) Tournament is held on outdoor courts at the Halle.  In 2010 forty players on ten teams participated in a spirited competition, while many more Turners and friends looked on and joined in the fun.

24th Annual Bocce Ball Tournament

The 24th Annual Eiche Bocce Ball Tournament was again held on 18 September 2011 on the grass courts on our east lawn.  12 four person teams competed starting at 10:00 AM, with the Po' Po' Lookers (Glen Dian and Julie, Dale an Brett Carlson) outlasting some inclement weather and the Koenig 1 Team to claim the 2011 championship.

                Bowling

In addition to the Baers who bowl once a month during the winter, Eiche Turners sponsors a Bowling League, open to members of the public as well as Turners, which meets the second Sunday of the month, September through April (plus once more in January - see the calendar) at Centenial Lanes in Tinley Park.

The 2010 - 2011 League completed play in April, holding their annual Bowling Banquet at the Halle on 7 May.  The 2011-2012 League began play Sunday, 11 September.

               Volley Ball
Eiche Turners does not currently have regular Volley Ball play within the membership.  However, at this summers Turnfest, Eiche Turners fielded a very successful Womens Volley Ball Team.

Our Lady Volley Ball Players took second (we was robbed) at the Turnfest!
