"Celebrating 100 years of service to Turnverein Eiche."
At first, even though the entire family was incorporated into the life of the Turnverein, women had no direct voice in the operation of the Society. In 1905, to contribute in more ways, Eiche Turner's Women's Auxiliary came into being. Over the years the Auxiliary has contributed to the welfare of the Society in many ways, running certain events, operating the Club kitchen, raising money for specific Turner purposes, and contributing directly to the Society coffers. In 1960, women were allowed membership in the Society, and have contributed as members and officers ever since, but the Auxiliary has continued to be an important asset to Turnverein Eiche.
Meetings are normally held monthly, the first Wednesday of each month, excepting January, July and August, as indicated on the Calendar. The Auxiliary meet at 11:30 AM for luncheon meetings, 7:30 PM for evening meetings (which include coffee and desert) and occasionally at 6:00 PM for dinner meetings - check the Calendar for meeting time that month (it does vary month to month). Meetings occasionally include a business meeting but always finish with a cultural program and/or social gathering.
The Auxiliary holds a number of events for the Society and open to the public through the year, including Pot Luck Dinners, Breakfast with Santa, the Ten Penny Social, they participate in the Eiche Picnic, collect and contribute gifts for the children in our classes, as well as preparing the food for the Super Bowl Soiree and many Turner functions throughout the year.
The Auxiliary has raised and donated over $10,000 to the Society. Other donations include a coat and trophy case in the foyer, new refrigerator for the kitchen, a lighted podium, Halle entrance doors, banquet tables, table skirts, changing tables in the bathrooms, new American Flags, the new bar stools in the Jahn Room, and many items for our kitchen.
Through the year, the Auxiliary supports many community organizations with monetary donation as well as making collections of food items and clothing to the Tinley Park Food Pantry.
It is the auxiliary's desire to continue our support of Turnverein Eiche in the years to come. If you would like to be part of this worthwhile and gratifying volunteer organization, please contact the Eiche Turner office at 708-429-2206 for an application. Dues are $10.00 per year.
